Primary Purpose:
Maintain safe and attractive grounds and landscaping for the district.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
- Valid Texas driver’s license
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Ability to read and understand written instructions
- Ability to communicate (verbally)
- Ability to operate tractor and landscaping equipment
- Ability to operate riding or power mower, power tools, and hand tools
Experience:
1 year

Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Grounds and Landscaping
- Perform maintenance including mowing, aerifying, topdressing, seeding, sodding, trimming, field painting, irrigation and turf care, fertilizing; spray chemicals including insecticides, herbicides, soil conditioners and related chemicals; follow proper safety precautions; installation and care of trees and shrubs, proper pruning techniques and tree removal at all district facilities.
- Perform infield maintenance and repair work of baseball/softball fields including, watering infields, repairing bases, pitching mounds, batter’s boxes and transition areas of infield and outfield.
- Perform tilling, rolling and fertilizing soil; construct new planting areas and maintain high traffic wear areas on athletic fields.
- Perform maintenance of irrigation system including preventive maintenance, replacement of heads, broken pipes, winterization and summarization of irrigation system and monitor flow rates of fields.
- Collect and dispose of leaves, dirt, rubbish, and refuse from district facilities.
- Assist with the inspection, repair, and installation of sprinkler systems.
Safety
- Operate tools and equipment according to prescribed safety procedures.
- Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing, etc.
- Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately.
- Help keep vehicle, equipment, and tools in safe operating condition.
- Inspect and adjust tools and equipment for safety and efficiency and perform preventive maintenance as needed.
Other
- Perform a variety of preventive maintenance and general maintenance repair work of equipment, buildings and facilities by performing a variety of equipment renovation, semi-skilled plumbing, carpentry, masonry, concrete work, roofing, painting and electrical work.
- Perform maintenance of ground/athletic complexes and buildings; pick up paper and other debris; sweep entrances; clean and disinfect as needed; replenish and maintain restroom supplies including soap dispensers, tissues and towels.
- Additionally, perform routine custodial maintenance, cleaning, and grounds keeping tasks in assigned school buildings and grounds. Additionally, this position may be assigned to other maintenance duties as directed by Director of Operations. The work is performed under the direct supervision of the Director of Operations
- Empty and clean trash containers, including transporting bagged waste to outside trash receptacles.
- Transport workers and equipment to work sites throughout the district.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
None.
Equipment Used:
- Tractor and mower, riding and power mower, gas-powered weed trimmer, blower, edger, sprayer, striping machine, garden and hand tools, posthole auger, aerator. Light truck or van.
Working Conditions:
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
- Continual walking, standing, climbing, stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching, and heavy lifting and carrying. Work outside and around moving objects or vehicles. Exposure to extreme temperatures, chemicals (herbicides and fertilizer), and loud noises. Frequent districtwide travel.
