Primary Purpose:

 

Under general supervision, provide security and monitoring of campus exterior, parking lots, and traffic on district grounds.

 

Qualifications:

 

Education/Certification:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Clear and valid Texas driver’s license

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Ability to clearly and accurately record information
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to work effectively with youths and adults
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally

 

Experience:

  • None

 

Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the administration may find appropriate and acceptable.

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

 

Student Management

  • Patrol assigned campus.  Monitor student behavior and inform campus administrator(s) of student conduct, vehicle operation, and parking.
  • Control traffic and parking on campus grounds during school hours and at afterhours events.

 

Security and Parking

  • Patrols assigned area on foot, in assigned motor vehicle, or other specialized vehicle to ensure personal, building, and equipment security.
  • Examines doors, windows, and gates to ensure security; uses district keys to open and close buildings; monitors close buildings for unauthorized persons and/or suspicious activities.
  • Informs and warns violators of rule infractions, such as loitering, smoking, or carrying forbidden articles. 
  • Provides escort services for visitors, students, staff, and faculty, as necessary; provides other public assistance, such as  lockout services, jump-starts, and routine information.
  • Watches for and reports irregularities, such as security breaches, facility and safety hazards, and emergency situations; contacts emergency responders, such as police, fire, and/or ambulance personnel, as required.  
  • Remains alert for the presence of unauthorized persons and/or security code violators; approaches suspicious persons    and/or notifies campus administration or campus police as appropriate.
  • Performs periodic checks of emergency mechanisms/AED units to ensure proper functioning; reports malfunctions as required.
  • Patrols and monitors assigned parking areas and/or to provide public security and assistance.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • None

 

Tools/Equipment Used: 

  • District security golf cart
  • Two-way radio
  • Alarm system and other security equipment
  • Fire extinguisher
  • Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals

  •  Maintain emotional control under stress

Posture: 

  • Prolonged sitting and standing

Motion: 

  • Strenuous walking and climbing stairs;
  • Occasional keyboarding and use of mouse
  • Moderate driving

Lifting: 

  • Moderate lifting and carrying (15-44 pounds)

Environment:

  • Primarily outside (moderate exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather)
  • Moderate exposure to noise and vehicle exhaust
  • Frequent district wide travel
  • Guard “Shack” and enclosed golf cart provided but working environment is outside except in extreme weather conditions.

Other:

  • Specific hearing and visual requirements; may be subject to adverse and hazardous working conditions
