Primary Purpose:
The elementary manager is a working manager and will be expected to participate in the activities required of all Nutrition Service employees. In general, the manager will be responsible for supervising, controlling, directing and participating in the preparation and serving of food, the storage of all food and supplies, and the sanitation of kitchens. The manager will maintain and perform all tasks necessary for the proper accountability of all required records.
Qualifications:
Minimum Education:
- High School Diploma or G.E.D. and or Certification of Technology or TASN/SNA Level 3.
- Current City of Houston Food Service Manager certification or equivalent.
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Ability to speak, read, and write the English language.
- Food Service operational experience.
- Public relations experience.
- Professional appearance and attitude.
Experience:
- Minimum of three years (3) experience in school food service industry with at least one year experience as a head cashier.
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the administration may find appropriate and acceptable.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- To supervise and participate in the preparation and serving of attractive, wholesome, and nutritious food in the quantities’ needed for student’s participation in the unit cafeteria.
- To train Nutrition Service employees and cashiers.
- To assign tasks and schedule work for Nutrition Service employees.
- To account for all financial transactions connected with the serving of meals in the individual cafeteria.
- To order and requisition food and supplies needed for the preparation and serving of meals and to store food and supplies on shelves in storeroom, freezer and refrigerator.
- To provide refreshments and/or meals for school personnel and administrators when requested to do so.
- To physically inventory food, equipment and supplies as required.
- Report emergency repairs as needed to maintain the Nutrition Service facility.
- Maintain adequate health requirements in the individual unit that meet or exceed all local, state, or national regulations.
- Complete, review, and submit payroll for food service employees.
- Accurately record, retain, and utilize food production records.
- Manager is responsible for the implementation, training, supervision and management of the District HACCP program in their school
- Maintain TASN/SNA certification level 3 and Health Dept. Certification.
- Perform other duties as may be required by the Director of Nutrition Service.

During your entire scheduled work hours you must be physically able to:
- Stand and walk on hard surface floor unassisted
- Walk briskly
- Push and pull carts
- Stoop, bend, kneel, climb
- Lift up to 40 pounds
- Must be able to load and unload products a maximum height of 60 inches
- Climb a 6 foot ladder
Environment:
- Moderate to heavy exposure to hot/cold temperatures, steam, wet floors and cleaning chemicals.
